A Note From Your Campus CHRO, Terri Winbush |
People Leaders: For staff without ready access to email, please print and post a copy of this email.
|
It’s summer, y’all, and I hope that means one of three things for you: you’re on vacation (and reading this email when you’re back); you just came back from vacation and are relishing in replenishment and fond memories; or you’re counting down the days for your already booked and much-anticipated time off. If none of these apply to you, please, and I mean please, make it a priority to take time off.
We all know that taking time off has a stigma around it, but I’m here to personally tell you all we have it for a reason: to use it. I just came back from a much-needed vacation replete with relaxation, and I can’t even begin to tell you just how much it helped me recharge and recalibrate.
But don’t just take my word for it. There are articles galore and research that states that taking time off could literally save your life. And if saving your life is not good enough, other positive outcomes (aside from spending time with family, trying delicious food, sleeping in, or whatever your joy is!) include recharging your batteries; focusing on your health and preventing burnout; enhancing your mental clarity, creativity and productivity; strengthening connections with loved ones; and much, much more.
It doesn’t have to be a whole production; sometimes a staycation is all you need. And as you've heard me say before, in order for it to feel like a real vacation, you’ve got to take at least three consecutive days off.
Taking vacation means taking care of yourself. By doing so, you’ll become a better version of yourself and return to campus with a renewed sense of purpose that benefits not only you but everyone around you. So, go ahead, schedule that time off.
Lead with grace and courage,
Terri S. Winbush
Campus Chief Human Resources Officer
