Open Enrollment for 2026 Benefits Begins October 30 |
Important: A review of current elections is recommended as premiums and/or medical plans may change for 2026. Please read the message below in its entirety.
Open Enrollment for 2026 benefits begins Thursday, Oct. 30, at 8 a.m. (Pacific) and ends on Friday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m. (Pacific). Please note that a review of current elections is recommended as premiums and/or medical plans may change for 2026.
As recently shared in a message from Systemwide Human Resources Vice President Cheryl Lloyd and in this UCnet article on five things you need to know before open enrollment, UC continues to balance the rising costs of health care with its commitment to offering comprehensive, high-quality benefits for employees and retirees. Nationally, health care costs continue to increase due to higher utilization, an aging population, and the rising cost of new treatments and medications.
Key updates for 2026 include:
|
-
A new medical plan option will be available. HealthSavings+ is replacing CORE and UC Health Savings plan, with new benefits and costs. Details about this plan, along with information on all available medical options, can be found in the 2026 Benefits Fact Sheet on UCnet. Please note that those who are enrolled in either the CORE or UC Health Savings Plan will be automatically defaulted into the new HealthSavings+ option if another plan is not selected during the Open Enrollment period.
- Premiums are changing. Depending on the medical plan you select, your monthly premium may increase or decrease. For example, Kaiser HMO premiums will rise to better reflect actual coverage costs, while HealthSavings+ and UC Care premiums will decrease for some members.
-
Represented employees should review their collective bargaining agreements and contact their union representatives with questions about how these changes may apply to them.
|
Premium contributions for certain employee groups and locations may vary from the amounts shown on UCnet and in Open Enrollment materials. To see rates specific to your location and bargaining unit (if represented), sign into your UCPath account beginning Oct. 30, 2025.
Other important information and reminders:
|
- You must enroll or re-enroll in your health and/or dependent care flexible spending account (FSA) each year.
|
We understand you will have a lot of questions, and want to assure you that once Open Enrollment period begins, you will have access to the necessary resources to help you make the best decisions about coverage for you and your family.
UC San Diego will host Open Enrollment presentations and activities (including live and pre-recorded presentations with the vendors, office hours, and more) starting October 30 through the end of Open Enrollment. Be on the lookout for registration details and additional updates available via Blink starting October 30.
As systemwide human resources president Cheryl Lloyd said in her message, if you’re one of those people who never pays attention to Open Enrollment, this is the year to change that. Please plan accordingly to ensure you allot enough time to ask questions and make your benefits selections by the deadline of Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. PST.
If you are a campus employee (academics, faculty, staff), and you have questions about your benefits, contact the Benefits team in Campus Human Resources.
If you are a health system or health sciences employee, and you have questions about your benefits, contact Health HR.
