COMMITTEE ON RESEARCH

  1. REFERENCE

    By-Laws and Regulations of the San Diego Division of the Academic Senate.

  2. POLICY

    The Committee on Research is constituted to recommend policies in support of research scholarship in the Division. The By-Laws state:

    1.   This committee shall consist of eight ordinary members of the Division, including the chair and vice chair of the General Campus Subcommittee of Committee on Research (COR), the chair of the Health Science Subcommittee of Committee on Research (COR), the chair of the Marine Science Subcommittee of Committee on Research (COR), the Divisional Representative to the University Committee on Research Policy (UCORP), and ex officio the Vice Chancellor for Research, none of whom shall serve as chair or vice chair. The Chair and Vice Chair of this committee shall normally be apointed for two-year staggered terms. The UCORP member shall normally serve for two years, after having served at least one year on the Divisonal committee.

    2.  This Committee shall have the following duties:

      1. It shall review and make recommendations to the Administration and the Division concerning general policies pertaining to Organized Research.

      2. It shall review and make recommendations concerning proposals for and reviews of Organized Research Units.

      3. It shall review and make recommendations concerning proposals for and reviews of University authorized research units.

      4. It shall formulate and report to the Division general policies, not otherwise provided for by University-wide policy, concerning the research activities on the San Diego campus that are supported by funds at the disposal of this Committee or by extramural funding.

      5. It shall advise the Chancellor and report to the Division concerning budgetary needs for support of research in the Division.

      6. It shall make recommendations to the Chancellor, at his or her request, concerning the allocation among applicant San Diego Division members of any money made available by the University to the San Diego Division."


GENERAL CAMPUS SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE COMMITTEE ON RESEARCH

  1.  This subcommittee shall consist of seven ordinary members of the Division from the General Campus.

  2.  This subcommittee shall allocate funds within its purview to applicant Division members for the support of research and travel to attend scholarly meetings.


HEALTH SCIENCE SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE COMMITTEE ON RESEARCH

  1.  This subcommittee shall consist of five ordinary members of the Division from the School of Medicine.

  2.  This subcommittee shall allocate funds within its purview to applicant Division members for the support of research and for travel to attend scholarly meetings.


MARINE SCIENCE SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE COMMITTEE ON RESEARCH

  1.  This subcommittee shall consist of three ordinary members of the Division from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

  2.  This subcommittee shall allocate funds within its purview to applicant Division members for the support of research and for travel to attend scholarly meetings.
