COMPENSATION OF ACADEMIC YEAR APPOINTEES
FOR TEACHING AND RESEARCH

  1. BACKGROUND

    With the issuance of this policy, "service periods" no longer will be used to determine payments for research for academic year (nine-month) appointees who hold joint appointments for teaching and research. These appointees now will be assured of receiving full salary payments for research from extramural funds within the same period required for teaching payments.

  3. POLICY

    1.  The following policy is applicable to salary payments to academic year (nine month) appointees who hold joint appointments for teaching and research.

      1. Payments for the teaching portion of the appointments will be made in twelve equal installments (four per quarter).

      2. Payments for the research portion of the appointment funded against extramural sources will be made in nine equal installments (three per quarter).

    2.  This same policy is applicable to payments under a research title from extramural funds to appointees who teach the equivalent of one quarter full-time during the regular academic year, and who elect to spend one or two quarters on research.

    3.  Exhibit A shows a Change in Employment Status form completed for a joint appointment on the basis of 67 percent time for the reaching title and 33 percent time for the research title.
