A Note From Your Campus CHRO, Terri Winbush

I hope that you all are safe and healthy. I first must acknowledge the devastation that is taking place in the Middle East. Please utilize the resources that our Chancellor shared in the message last week. I encourage you to ensure that you are fully informed before you engage in what can be heated and nuanced discussions. Remember to exercise grace with yourself and with others.
We are now fully into the fall quarter, and campus is abuzz! For those of you who were able to take some time off during the summer (and even if you were not), I hope you are excited and ready to continue the great learning experience for our students.
Speaking of great experiences for our students, last week I had the great pleasure of participating in the International Day of the Girl Child event at our very own Preuss School with many other women leaders in San Diego. Let me tell you, what Dr. Helen Griffith and her team are doing is inspiring! Those girls are brilliant, confident, strong, and embody The Preuss Way of kindness, respect, and excellence. When you think of all of the amazing accomplishments of UC San Diego, please remember that we have amazing future leaders in 6th through 12th grade that we all contribute to in many ways.
I also had the opportunity to attend the recent Celebrate the Night event hosted by the Staff Association to recognize the contributions of everyone working evening and overnight shifts. For those of you in attendance, thank you so much for your grace and support for me while I delivered my remarks in English and in Spanish. It was important to me that everyone present knew how much I appreciate all of you and your hard work, and wanted your heart to hear me.
I look forward to seeing People Leaders at our first People Leader Summit on Wednesday (more info below), and everyone at our Staff Town Hall on October 31. Now on to the business!
News and Resources
Curtailment/Winter Closure Clarification Many of you reached out related to the Curtailment/Winter closure notice concerned because the dates established by UC San Diego are different from the dates listed by UCPath. First, I want to assure you that the dates in the campus notice are correct. I had hoped UCPath would post an updated calendar for the several locations that determined dates aligned with our Absence From Work Policy, but that will likely not occur. Thank you to our Health HR colleagues who created local calendars, and to the amazing Bea Florentino from Data, Systems, & Processes, who posted them on our Payroll page along with immediate alerts to address the confusion.
