A Note From Your Campus CHRO, Terri Winbush
| |
The end of the year is fast approaching, and as I look back to reflect on how amazing (and eventful) 2023 has been, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible institution that UC San Diego is, and the people who make it incredible - you.
And as the Campus HR department, we celebrated many victories with the soft launch of our Employee Center; the People Leader Network; the HR Network; and the ongoing build-out of vital infrastructure to support the exciting period of transformation underway for Campus HR.
All of this in support of our People Proposition - the five anchors of equity, inclusion, care, growth, and purpose that guide every decision we make, with the goal of creating an ideal lived experience for UC San Diego employees. The stories you have shared with us of discussing and exercising grace, seeking and finding your joy, and otherwise supporting each other really make me emotional (in a good way).
To say that I am humbled to work here is an understatement. I recognize I have a unique opportunity to help positively change lives, and to create a long-lasting legacy with and for you all. I take great pride and responsibility in that, and with the year closing out, I want to thank you all again wholeheartedly for the many ways you make UC San Diego a special place to be.
So with that, happy and safe holidays to everyone who celebrates. May you rest, replenish, and do something that brings you joy.
Here’s to a healthy, vigorous, and prosperous 2024, and as always, keep your eyes peeled for exciting HR news for the new year, as we’ll be introducing a bevy of new features, including content en español, an HR intranet, and lots more.
News and Resources
Phishing Alert: Fraudulent UCPath Center Email A fraudulent message with the subject “Update Your UCPath Account” recently targeted the UC San Diego community and other University of California employees. In this phishing scam, an email falsely claiming to be from UCPath asks employees to update their UCPath accounts. Please read this campus notice from our Chief Information Security Officer containing important information on what to do and what not to do should you suspect you may have inadvertently clicked on any compromising links.
Celebration of Cultures I’m still beaming with excitement at the wonderful experience that was the Celebration of Cultures last week! It was a powerful coming together of diversity and traditions from cultures around the world, featuring spectacular food and performances. This event in many ways showcases how connected we all are with features of dance that are similar, and historical traditions around food based on similar roots. It’s an awesome reminder in a very frequently divided world that we are really all one, and should love on each other as much as possible! Kudos to our Vice Chancellor of Resource Management and Planning’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action (IDEA) Task Group and partners for hosting this outstanding event. You can read more about it on UC San Diego Today.

Inaugural HR Forum Our first HR Forum was held last month with excellent attendance - and we’re just getting started! If you’re an HR professional on campus and weren’t able to attend, you can view a recording of our session on Blink. Be sure to register for the next session on Monday, March 4, 1:30 - 3 p.m.! Note: this event is intended for HR professionals at UC San Diego campus only.
Curtailment/Winter Closure Reminder As announced in October, UC San Diego (excluding the hospitals and clinics) will officially close for seven (7) days between Monday, December 25, 2023, and Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Many reached out concerned because the dates established by UC San Diego are different from the dates listed by UCPath. I assured you in last month’s Updates from HR that the dates in the campus notice are correct, and they remain correct and will remain that way. If you have payroll-related questions surrounding curtailment, you can see dates on our Payroll page.
Abusive Conduct Policy and Required Training As you may have seen in an October campus notice, the Office of the President has instituted a system-wide Abusive Conduct in the Workplace policy, accompanied by required training for all employees, including staff, academics, and UC San Diego health employees. You received a notification from the UC Learning Center when the course was assigned to you last month. If you haven’t already taken the training, remember you have 100 days to complete it after receiving the notification. Don’t wait until the last minute. To review the policy and for additional resources, visit the Abusive Conduct in the Workplace training information site on Blink.
